Growing up I have always been a strong reader and writer, as an elementary school student I was constantly recognized for my reading and comprehension skills. In third grade I was reading at an eighth- grade level which boosted my self- esteem.  While taking state mandated standardized tests, I would receive some of the highest scores that could be earned but as I go to high school and realized that college would require longer essays, longer pages, and deeper thinking. I am frightened but excited about being in an English class in college because my best may not be my best anymore, I am also excited because I can grow as a writer and get better at writing all topics. Being in my first English college class helps me realize that it is important to plan before beginning to write and making sure that I revise multiple times. I also realized that peer review can make a dramatic difference in your writing because your peers may see some flaws in my writing that I may have not noticed. As a writer I prefer to write by myself in a quiet space because it helps me get my thoughts together and more organized as I write. A goal I would like to achieve in this class is to become a better writer because I strongly believe that there is always room for improvement and that if I can become a better writer I should take advantage of the opportunities presented to me to help myself as I progress into my college career.

Journal #3

I interviewed Andrew Canino who is a tutor at the Reading and Writing Center located in the Williams Building on the second floor in person for about fifteen minutes. From conducting an interview with him I found out that he got his undergraduate degree and master’s degree at a college in North Carolina and he applied to Florida State University to get his PhD and work as a teacher. I chose Andrew as my person to interview because he was a tutor at the Reading and Writing Center and based on my composing goals I wanted to interview someone who could possibly give me some pointers on how to be a better planner as a composer. Planning has been my biggest struggle which hinders my ability to write great papers in a shorter amount of time. I learned a new way of planning that may be easier for me and could help me compose better papers and start on my papers sooner for better time management. The interview went extremely well because Andrew managed to answer multiple questions within one question. He was very thorough with his answers and I did not have to pry answers out of him. I look forward to going to the Reading and Writing Center for help with composing future papers.
