The interview responses confirmed my understanding of composing because I was able to interview someone who could give me helpful tips on my composing goal and I was able to learn the methods that he used to help writers like me who struggle with planning and writing. My interviewee was very thorough with his responses so I was able to take away some methods to use for future writing purposes. My interviewee gave me some insight from a teacher and a student’s point of view being that he is a teacher and a graduate student. He helped me understand what goes through a teacher’s mind when grading papers and he helped me understand that as a student we often worry about papers but we must plan first and use the resources that are available to us to ensure that out papers are what the professor is looking for. I want to learn more about being able to start a paper, oftentimes I struggle with writing a paper because I do not know where to start and that causes me to procrastinate and have to stress when a paper is due.  I would like to also learn how to stay on track in my writing, when I begin writing a paper with no specific prompt or topic I tend to stray off, straying off also causes my writing process to be prolonged and it affects my ability to write an organized paper. When composing a paper I don’t realize that I have strayed off the topic until the end when I am proofreading and it is time consuming and frustrating to have to rewrite my paper because I strayed off topic. I also want to learn how to compose in different styles, when giving a prompt it is easier to write but creative writing is something I have been interested in and I would like to learn how to compose creative pieces, learning more about creative writing will also enhance my versatility as a composer. Being able to complete these goals will not only make me a better composer but it will boost my esteem as a writer because I know my work has improved and it will be a better experience for the reader because my writing is effectively planned and composed in a structured and orderly way. Improving in these areas will help outside of the classroom with my confidence. I will understand that I am a better writer than I was before and it will encourage me to want to show my work to others to see because I know that my work is better than it was before. I have always thought that my work was “okay”, but I knew that I could improve in certain aspects of my writing. Admitting this out loud was hard at first because I was embarrassed being that I am a college student but admitting made it easier for me to look for the resources necessary to reach the goals that I have set. The lessons I have learned in the classroom I will use to inform my composing practices beyond the university by knowing the different styles of composing that are available. My next steps to achieve my goals as a writer from where I began are to be consistent in using the resources available to me and taking in the information given to me outside of the classroom and utilizing it in and out of the classroom so that I can improve my skills as a composer. I will also use lessons that I have learned inside the classroom to take with me on my journey to become a better writer.
